Marsha Baker Coles (Owner/Funeral Director)
Marsha Baker Coles was born and reared in Princeville, North Carolina. Her Father Jesse Baker and Mother Martha Matthewson Baker owned and operated their family funeral home across the river in Tarboro, NC. until their death. Marsha and her brother Attorney Jesse M. Baker grew up spending their early years playing in the funeral home and watching their parents work the family business. After graduating from high school, Marsha attended Bennett College for Women in Greensboro, NC her Mother’s Alma Marta. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration and after graduating from Bennett she went on to attend NC A&T State University where she earned a Master’s Degree in Counselor Education and became a certified School Counselor K-12. In the Early 2000’s Marsha earned certification as a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor.
Marsha has worked as a Social Worker for the Blind, Instructor at Sampson Community college, Director of Staff Development and Training State of NC, and as a Therapist in private practice and at the University Counseling Center at St. Augustine’s University. Raleigh, NC. Marsha has been a licensed Funeral Director and Licensed Insurance Professional for more than thirty years. She holds certification as a licensed School counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor. Marsha is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and a life-long Episcopalian. She has served on several boards and commissions both locally and statewide. She also enjoys cooking, especially baking and makes a “mean” home-made/scratch pound cake. Her pound cakes are a must have Christmas gift for family and friends.
She is happily married to The Rev. Dr. Clifford C. Coles, Sr. They are parents of one, Melanie Beth Coles (deceased). Cliff and Marsha own and operate the family business, Baker Funeral Home, Tarboro. NC.
